The Fascination of the Garden

The exhibition, combining fine arts and history, opens up views of the garden theme in the paintings of painter Nanna Susi (b. 1967). Cultural history and the artworks of Saarijärvi-based artists Aune Herala (1917–1983), Elsa Härkönen-Peura (1922–2017), Kaisa Kitinprami-Ilola (b. 1984), Maisa Kivi (b. 1941) and Väinö Rusanen (b. 1928) illustrate the region's vegetative wealth. Vegetables and decorative plants have been grown in the gardens and they have provided pleasant green spaces for spending free time. The historical gardens of Saarijärvi have been visually impressive and well maintained.

Nanna Susi is one of the most significant Finnish painters of our time. the artist came to the public's attention in 2000, when he was chosen as the Young Artist of the Year. Susi's works are colorful, expressive, emotional and often large in scale. Nanna lives and works in both Rome and Helsinki. For the 'Fascination of the Garden' she has selected works from the years 2017–2024.
